Blog Entry 4: Image Gathering

This image was inspiration for an ad idea I had. The woman would be in overalls that are cuffed at the bottom with some great Simply Vera pumps on. She would have the pitch fork in one hand and maybe a Simply Vera bag in the other day. Her hair would be either up in a messy bun or down and all goddess like.

Simply Vera ads are always whimsical and feminine. I love this Dior ad.

This is just an example of a Simply Vera logo.

This is the logo for Kohl's where our brand, Simply Vera, is sold.

Blog Entry 3: Selected Brand and Research

Deja and I decided to switch our brand to Simply Vera by Vera Wang for our midterm project. Simply Vera is sold at Kohl's. Vera Wang's line offers middle class americans a chance to buy accessories from this otherwise highly expensive designer. Her line also includes clothing, lingerie, and accessories, but of course we will be focusing on shoes. Even though the economy is in a spiral downturn Kohl's did acceptionally well. In a recent article on WWD.com it was noted that "By line of business, accessories and footwear outperformed the company for the quater" and more in depth women's and children's footwear performed best. Vera's line provides an urban chic feel and targets mostly 18 to 30 year olds. She does her best to create trendy looks at afordable prices. When her line at Kohl's first came out many critics were worried that her reputation and name would be hurt but she has done very well for herself.

Entry # 2 Formal Runway Show

FASHION SHOWS! My favorite part about fashion. Seeing all the slender models walk down the runway wearing garments new to the world; it is an excitement to me. Not only are the designers required to tell a story through their garments but the Fashion Show Directors are in charge of telling a story through the music, lighting, and backdrops. To me that would be such a cool job because its the first time viewers get to see the garments so its your job to present them in a way that will compliment the pieces.

There are many different types of fashion shows. There are production, formal runway, informal, and multimedia shows. My FAVORITE form of a production fashion show is the Victoria's Secret fashion show. The lingerie is so crazy and extravagant and the models are GORGEOUS. Production and Formal runway shows are the most expensive and usually cost more and don't make much of a profit but the inspirations trickle down to RTW.

Personal Narrative

Hey! My name is Melissa Burns. I'm from Kansas City. I'm a freshman and my major is currently Fashion Communication. I'm mostly interested in the visual part of fashion, mainly fashion shows and photography. Right now I'm on the edge of changing majors and transferring to Missouri State. I will have to be WOWd by this semester to stay at Stephens. This class will be very interesting but I must say that I am very nervous about it. I feel like I don't know as much as everyone else but maybe many of the other girls feel that way too.
